Gospel sing in honor of local transplant patient

In 2005, Gloria Lindsay, of Charlotte, was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, and now doctors say a heart transplant is critical to her survival.

Friends and family are planning “Heartbeats for Gloria,” a gospel fundraiser to help offset her growing medical expenses.

The concert will be held Saturday, Oct. 24 at 3 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 730 Sutton Rd. in Rocky Mount.

Four local choirs will be performing, and while the event is free to attend, donations are encouraged and appreciated.

The average heart transplant costs approximately $1 million. And that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Lindsay, 62, faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications, which are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

To overcome these financial challenges, Lindsay turned to the National Foundation for Transplants (NFT) for assistance. NFT is a nonprofit organization that helps transplant patients raise funds to pay for medical expenses.

“I’m hopeful that this will be a wonderfully successful event for Gloria,” said Claire Prince, NFT fundraising consultant. “At NFT, we’re dedicated to helping her raise the funds she needs to afford her lifesaving treatment and care.”
