Transplant Type - Kidney
We are thrilled to report that Richard received his kidney transplant in November 2009!
Richard, a single father of two, was diagnosed with diabetes more than 25 years ago, and he faced many challenges as a result of his disease. In 1995, he became legally blind after developing diabetic retinopathy. The following year, his kidneys failed, which led to painful dialysis treatments. After two years of regular dialysis, Richard received a successful kidney and pancreas transplant.
However, in 2009 the transplanted kidney failed due to chronic long-term rejection. Once again, Richard found himself on the transplant waiting list hoping to receive a second chance at life from a kidney transplant.
A kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000, and that's only the beginning. Even with health insurance, Richard will face significant medical expenses. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Please help! Your gift to the NFT Florida Kidney Fund will enable us to assist Richard with his transplant expenses. If you prefer to mail your gift, please send it to NFT Florida Kidney Fund, 5350 Poplar Ave., Suite 430, Memphis, TN 38119. Please be sure to write "in honor of Richard Morgan" in the memo line.
Thank you for your generosity!
