Transplant Type - Kidney
Rhett has always been the picture of health. But in November 2008, he became ill and was diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease. Doctors have told Rhett a kidney transplant is his only hope for a second chance at life.
Prior to his illness, Rhett worked as a wireless technician, but his declining health now prevents him from working. Soon after his diagnosis, he began dialysis treatments, which are painful and take a toll on his quality of life.
Despite his struggles, Rhett is optimistic about the future and grateful for the support of his family and friends. He looks forward to the lifesaving transplant that will allow him to participate in activities he once enjoyed, like scuba diving, biking and volunteering with the local search and rescue dive team. He and his wife, Faye, would like nothing more than to grow old together and watch their three children grow up. But they need your help.
A kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. And that's only the beginning. Even with health coverage, Rhett will face significant medical expenses. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Because the transplant will take place more than 200 miles from his home, he will also incur substantial travel and lodging expenses as he goes through treatment and recovery.
You can help.
