Transplant Type - Bone Marrow

In 2005, Randy came down with what he thought was the flu or a lingering cold. Antibiotics didn't seem to help, and his doctor ordered additional tests. A CAT scan showed inflamed lymph nodes, which required even further testing. Eventually, doctors diagnosed Randy with Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Randy soon began chemotherapy treatments. While the disease was in remission, he and his wife welcomed their first son, Matthew. Sadly, routine follow-up tests in 2008 showed the lymphoma had returned. After additional chemotherapy and an autologous bone marrow transplant, the illness was once again in remission, and Randy was able to return to his normal life working in finance for ESPN and spending time with his family and friends.

Unfortunately, tests in April 2009 showed Hodgkin's lymphoma was once again attacking Randy's immune system. He has endured more chemotherapy and is now waiting for a donor match so he can receive an allogenic bone marrow transplant. Although Randy's siblings have been tested, none are a match.

Randy is determined to overcome this challenge, and considers himself fortunate to have unwavering love and support from his family and friends.

An allogenic bone marrow transplant costs approximately $675,000. Even with health insurance, Randy faces significant medical expenses related to his transplant, including travel to his transplant center, lodging, co-pays and medication.
