Transplant Type - Kidney

Nine years ago, during her second pregnancy, Rajinder was diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy, an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation and scarring of the kidneys. Doctors said a kidney transplant was her only hope for a second chance at life.

Fortunately, she received her lifesaving transplant in July 2009, after nearly a year on the waiting list.

Rajinder's poor health has taken a toll on her quality of life. She doesn't have the energy to be as active in her daughters' lives as she would like to be. She has been unable to work since September 2008 and is anxious to return to her normal lifestyle. She looks forward to spending more time with her family as she regains her strength. But her fight isn't over yet, and she needs your help.

A kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. And that's only the beginning. Even with health coverage, Rajinder faces significant medical expenses related to her transplant. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month-and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
Rajinder currently has a COBRA insurance plan, but it will expire in September 2009. She also faces significant travel and lodging expenses, as her transplant took place at the University of Utah, more than 1,000 miles from her home in Colorado.
