Transplant Type - Kidney
We are thrilled to report that Peggy received her lifesaving transplant on May 3, 2011!
Peggy was diagnosed in 2006 with end-stage renal disease. Doctors told her a kidney transplant was her only hope for a second chance at life.
Despite her health problems, Peggy, a mother of nine, grandmother of 18 and great-grandmother of three, is optimistic about the future. She looks forward to resuming the activities she once loved, such as traveling and cooking.
A kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. And that's only the beginning. Even with health coverage, Peggy faces significant medical expenses. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month-and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
Peggy must also travel 500 miles to Emory Transplant Center in Atlanta, incurring substantial costs for travel, food and lodging. After receiving her transplant, she must temporarily relocate to Atlanta to be closer to the transplant center. Because of her declining health, Peggy can no longer work, adding to her financial strain.
You can help.
