Transplant Type - Kidney

Patricia was diagnosed with a chronic kidney disease and suffered from end stage renal failure. Doctors said a kidney transplant was her only hope for a second chance at life.

For 10 years before her diagnosis, Patricia held a full-time and part-time job and enjoyed the freedom to travel whenever she wanted. But after the diagnosis, her life revolved around doctors' appointments and dialysis.

Fortunately, Patricia received her lifesaving transplant in March 2009. She looks forward to to the independence her transplant will give her. But she needs your help.

A kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000, and that's only the beginning. Even with medical coverage, Patricia faces significant medical expenses. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

It is estimated that in the short term, Patricia will need at least $25,000 to cover the cost of medications and doctors' visits. Because the transplant will take place nearly 150 miles from her home, she will incur substantial travel and temporary housing expenses as she goes through treatment and recovery. She will be unable to work during the transplantation process, and her loss of wages will further add to her growing medical expenses.
