Transplant Type - Heart

We are thrilled to report that Patricia received her lifesaving heart transplant in October 2009!

Patricia has faced many health struggles in her lifetime. Born with a congenital heart defect, she required open heart surgery at the age of 19. This procedure was so rare, she was only the ninth person to ever undergo this particular surgery.

An avid walker, Patricia had trouble breathing during a walk in 1999. Many tests later, the results were conclusive. She needed a double bypass and a pulmonic valve. In 2007, she was diagnosed with Ascites, accumulation of fluid in the abdomen. This later resulted in a ruptured appendix, requiring yet another surgery. Soon after, she developed vasculitis, inflammation of the blood vessels, in her lower legs.

The average heart transplant costs approximately $650,000, but that's just the beginning. Her health insurance will not cover all her expenses, which are significant. She will need a lifetime of follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. These medications alone can cost as much as $5,000 a month and are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

You can help! Your gift to the NFT Washington Heart Fund in Patricia's honor will enable NFT to assist her with her transplant expenses. You may make a secure online donation by clicking on the link under Patricia's photo. If you prefer to mail your donation, please send it to NFT Washington Heart Fund, 5350 Poplar Ave., suite 430, Memphis, TN 38119.

Thank you for your generosity!
