Transplant Type - Bone Marrow

In March 2009, Nandini and her family received devastating news when she was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia. Nandini, a devoted wife and mother of two, is determined to fight her disease. Doctors say a bone marrow transplant is her only hope for a second chance at life.

Nandini has always been very active. She opened a dance studio 10 years ago and has enjoyed her work as a dance instructor and choreographer. Unfortunately, her declining health forced her to close the studio in June 2009, placing an additional financial strain on her family.

Despite her struggles, Nandini is optimistic about the future. She looks forward to the lifesaving transplant that will allow her more time with her family. Nandini and her husband, Amiya, would like nothing more than to grow old together and watch their children grow up. But they need your help.

A bone marrow transplant costs approximately $675,000. And that's only the beginning. Even with health coverage, Nandini will face significant medical expenses. She will require costly follow-up care and medications, which are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself. Nandini's total expenses are expected to reach $1 million.

Because the transplant center is 370 miles from her home, Nandini will incur substantial travel and temporary housing expenses as she goes through treatment and recovery. She and her husband will have to relocate to New York for several months to be closer to the transplant center, further adding to their financial burden.
