Transplant Type - Heart
In 1995, Lamar suffered from his first heart attack. In 2009, he experienced another heart attack and was diagnosed with advanced heart failure. After receiving the diagnosis, Lamar's doctor told his wife, Mary, to take him home to die comfortably. Mary refused to accept those instructions and searched to find a doctor who would help him.
Doctors at UAB Hospital told Lamar a heart transplant was his only hope for a second chance at life. Thankfully, he received his lifesaving transplant in May 2009.
Although he has experienced some health issues post-transplant, Lamar is thankful for his life and is grateful for Mary's determination to find a doctor who would help him. He looks forward to feeling well enough to play with his three grandchildren the way he used to. He wants nothing more than to have his health fully restored so he can spend many more years with Mary, and return to his hobbies of riding 4-wheelers, hunting and fishing. But he needs your help.
A heart transplant costs approximately $750,000. And that's only the beginning. Even with health coverage, Lamar faces significant medical expenses related to his transplant. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Because of his declining health, Lamar is unable to work, adding to his family's financial strain.
