Transplant Type - Kidney
In 2003, Kim was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease and diabetic nephropathy. For the past four years, she has endured dialysis treatments. Doctors told Kim a kidney transplant was her only hope for a second chance at life. Fortunately, she received her transplant in November 2009, thanks to a generous living donor.
Despite her struggles, Kim relies on her faith and her family to keep a positive outlook. Kim, an ordained minister, has helped raise 28 children and adopted five. Her four youngest children still live at home, and she wants nothing more than to spend many more years watching them grow up. Kim is grateful for the lifesaving transplant that will allow her to return to the ministry and enjoy the hobbies she loves so much, such as singing and swimming. But she needs your help.
A kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. And that's only the beginning. Even with health insurance, Kim faces significant medical expenses. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
Kim's health prevented her from working, adding to her financial strain. Because her transplant center is two hours away from her home, she will also incur expenses related to travel, food and lodging.
You can help.
