Transplant Type - Liver

We are thrilled to report that Kevin received his liver transplant in September 2010 and is recovering well!

In 2001, Kevin was diagnosed with hepatitis C and non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver during a routine physical, but at that time it had not affected his liver. However, since 2008 the disease has become very aggressive and his liver is quickly failing. Because Kevin has lived a very clean life, never touching drugs or alcohol, doctors believe he may have contracted the disease while receiving a blood transfusion during surgery to close a heart valve in 1977 when he was just four years old. Doctors told Kevin a liver transplant was essential to his survival.

Kevin, a devoted husband to Kerri and father of three, is thankful for the opportunity to receive a second chance at life. He continues to remain upbeat and optimistic about his future. He looks forward to playing sports and doing activities with his children without feeling exhausted. More than anything, he wants to live a normal life again and spend many more years with Kerri watching their young children grow up. But he needs your help.

A liver transplant costs approximately $500,000. And that's only the beginning. Kevin faces significant medical expenses related to his transplant. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

Kevin feels blessed to have an understanding employer who allows him to continue working while taking time off for doctors' appointments, but even with his current income raising the money for his deposit is an overwhelming feat.
