Transplant Type - Heart

We are thrilled to report that Kendra received her lifesaving heart transplant in September 2009!

Kendra, a devoted wife and mother, was diagnosed with congestive heart failure five months after giving birth to her son. Medication did not improve Kendra's condition, and doctors said a heart transplant was her only hope for a second chance at life.

Before her diagnosis, Kendra worked as a social worker and loved the opportunities her profession gave her to serve others. She looks forward to life after the transplant so that she can be the wife, mother and professional she aspires to be.

A heart transplant costs approximately $650,000, and that's only the beginning. Even with health insurance, Kendra faces significant medical expenses. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

Now that she has received her transplant, she must temporarily relocate to live near the transplant center for three to six months, adding to her family's financial strain.
