Transplant Type - Kidney
We are thrilled to report that John received his transplant in March 2011!
In 2007, John began to feel extremely ill and weak. Although he's not the type to visit the doctor very often, he knew something was wrong. After seeking medical care and undergoing multiple tests, John learned his kidneys were functioning at just 35%, and he was diagnosed with stage-5 renal insufficiency. Doctors told John a kidney transplant was essential to his survival.
His daughter generously donated a kidney to save John's life.
This avid outdoorsman has been a farmer for many years, and he has always been very involved in agricultural organizations and committees. He has been fortunate enough to travel to 13 different countries as an advocate for agricultural advancements. Sadly, his health prevented him from doing these things as much as he'd like. He's looking forward to resuming his regular activities once he recovers.
John and his wife, Marita, have four children and a granddaughter. It was especially hard for Marita and his 11-year-old son to see John's illness take a toll on his daily life. His other three children are grown and don't live nearby, but they try to help as much as possible and have been anxious to see their dad well again. But they need your help.
A kidney transplant costs more than $250,000. And that's only the beginning. John faces significant medical expenses related to his transplant. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
You can help.
