Transplant Type - Kidney

Jo Ann has been suffering from kidney disease since 2005 and enduring regular dialysis treatments since 2007. Her family has a history of diabetes and high blood pressure, which could have contributed to her battle with kidney disease. Doctors have told Jo Ann a kidney transplant is critical to her survival. She is on the transplant waiting list at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Despite these challenges, Jo Ann has a positive outlook on life. She still loves singing in her church choir, playing the piano and going on walks when she feels well enough. Jo Ann would like nothing more than to spend many more years with her husband, Arthur, watching their grandchildren grow up. But she needs your help.

A kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. And that's only the beginning. Even with health insurance, Jo Ann faces significant medical expenses. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

Because of her declining health, Jo Ann is unable to work, adding to her financial strain.
