Transplant Type - Liver

Gloria has experienced health problems for the past decade. She suffers from COPD, an enlarged heart, lungs and spleen. In 2008, she was diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. Doctors have told Gloria a liver transplant is essential to her survival. For the past 20 years, she worked as a medical collector, but her declining health now prevents her from working.

Gloria's two oldest granddaughters live with her, and she would like nothing more than to continue to be an active part of their lives. When she is able, Gloria enjoys playing bingo and cards.

Despite her struggles, Gloria is optimistic about the future and grateful for the support of her family and friends. In an effort to get ready for her transplant, Gloria has lost 117 pounds and for the first time in five years, is able to walk without a cane. She looks forward to the lifesaving transplant that will allow her more time with her loved ones. But she needs your help.

A liver transplant costs approximately $500,000. And that's only the beginning. Even with health coverage, Gloria faces significant medical expenses related to her transplant. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month-and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
