Transplant Type - Heart
Ed suffered his first heart attack in 1999. Since then, he has experienced four more heart attacks and had a defibrillator implanted in 2008 to monitor the electrical activity of his heart.
Doctors have told Ed a heart transplant is his only hope for a second chance at life. Ed is very optimistic about the future and looks forward to returning to his hobbies of fishing and flying.
He is hopeful that he will one day run with his grandchildren and dance with his wife after receiving a lifesaving heart transplant.
A heart transplant costs more than $750,000. And that's only the beginning. Even with medical coverage, Ed will face significant expenses. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Before he can even be added to the transplant waiting list at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston, he must raise $3,000 for a hospital deposit. Although he is a licensed electrician and worked for the same company for 25 years, his illness forced him to stop working, adding to his family's financial strain.
Please help! Your gift to the NFT Texas Heart Fund will enable us to assist Ed with his transplant expenses. To make a secure online donation, please click on the link beneath Ed's photo.
