Transplant Type - Liver/Kidney
In 2008, David underwent routine gallbladder surgery and expected to go home a few hours after the procedure. However, when the surgery was complete, David received shocking news. He learned he was suffering from ascites--excess fluid between abdominal tissues--plus liver and kidney failure. Doctors told David a liver and kidney transplant was critical to his survival. Fortunately, he received his lifesaving transplant in July and is recovering well.
The past few years have been incredibly difficult for David and his children, as their mother lost her battle with cancer a couple of years before he received his diagnosis. David has fought hard to overcome these challenges so he can be here for his children.
Although his life is not completely back to normal, David's getting stronger every day and is thankful to be at home with his family. He looks forward to going fishing, playing flag football and a round of golf, and cooking out with friends and family. But he needs your help.
A liver and kidney transplant costs more than $750,000. And that's only the beginning. David faces significant medical expenses related to his transplant. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Although he worked in the agriculture field for many years, his health now prevents him from working, adding to his financial strain.
You can help.
