Transplant Type - Kidney
As a small child, doctors told David's parents he had kidney issues. Then, in 1999, his kidneys completely shut down, causing him to need his first transplant. Sadly, his body began to reject the new kidney in 2005 because of swelling and infection. Doctors have told David a second kidney transplant is essential to his survival. While awaiting his lifesaving transplant, he must endure regular dialysis treatments, which greatly affect his quality of life.
Even in the midst of these challenges, David focuses on his family, friends and strong faith to keep a positive attitude. He is a fighter and feels blessed to have a wonderful wife, Christy, and loving daughter, Courtney, to support him every step of the way. David, who loves to play guitar and study the Bible, sees his health battle as an opportunity to encourage others to remain optimistic during hard times. He looks forward to living without depending on dialysis treatments to keep his body healthy. But he needs your help.
A kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. And that's only the beginning. David faces significant medical expenses related to his transplant. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
When David receives his transplant, he and Christy must temporarily relocate more than 250 miles to be closer to the transplant center in Gainesville, incurring substantial travel expenses.
