Transplant Type - Kidney
In 2009, David became very ill and was unable to eat. After multiple tests, he was diagnosed with renal failure, which also afflicted his grandmother. Doctors have told David a kidney transplant is critical to his survival, and he hopes to be added to the transplant waiting list at Tampa General Hospital soon. While he awaits his transplant, David must endure regular dialysis treatments, which leave him exhausted.
Despite his health challenges, David relies on his strong faith during this difficult time. Before becoming ill, he lived an active life and loved running, playing tennis, swimming, weight lifting and biking. Sadly, his declining health now prevents him from enjoying his favorite activities. He looks forward to the lifesaving transplant that will allow him to resume a normal life without depending on dialysis to keep him healthy. More than anything, he wants to spend many more years traveling and spending time with loved ones. But he needs your help.
A kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. And that's only the beginning. Even with health insurance, David faces significant medical expenses related to his transplant. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Although he still works in insurance sales, David's illness has forced him to greatly reduce his hours, adding to his financial strain.
