Transplant Type - Liver/Kidney
In 2004, Charlene became ill, and tests revealed she was suffering from a life-threatening liver disease. She is also diabetic, which causes many additional health issues. Doctors have told her a liver/kidney transplant is essential to her survival, and she hopes to be added to the transplant waiting list at Duke University Medical Center soon.
Before receiving her diagnosis, she lived a normal life and was able to enjoy her favorite activities of swimming, taking walks and traveling. She and her husband, Howard, have three children and two grandchildren, and she loves spending as much time as she can with her family. Charlene is a fighter who is determined to overcome this challenge, and she looks forward to living a life free of illness. But she needs your help.
A liver/kidney transplant costs approximately $750,000. And that's only the beginning. Even with health insurance, Charlene faces significant medical expenses related to her transplant. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
Although she was an administrative assistant, her health prevents her from working, adding to her financial strain.
You can help.
