Transplant Type - Lung
Carol is suffering from end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which also afflicted her mother. Although she was diagnosed in 1999, the disease has worsened, and doctors have told her a lung transplant is critical to her survival. Carol recently began the evaluation process in hopes of being added to the transplant waiting list soon.
Despite her struggles, Carol, a caring wife, mother and grandmother, remains positive about her future. She is thankful for the support of her husband, James, and their three adult sons. She looks forward to the lifesaving transplant that will allow her to attend her granddaughter's activities and spend many more years watching her grow up. But she needs your help.
A lung transplant costs approximately $450,000. And that's only the beginning. Even with health insurance, Carol faces significant medical expenses. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The medications can cost as much as $3,000 per month--and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
It is expected that Carol will face $90,000 in out-of-pocket expenses in just the first year after receiving her transplant.
You can help.
