Transplant Type - Kidney

In 2004, Bobby was diagnosed with diabetes, which eventually led to kidney failure. Doctors have told Bobby a kidney transplant is his only hope for a second chance at life.

Despite his struggles, Bobby is grateful for the support of his family and friends. He looks forward to the lifesaving transplant that will allow him to be an active grandfather, and he hopes to return to his regular activities. He wants nothing more than to spend many more years with his family and knows a kidney transplant will allow him to do that.

A kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. And that's only the beginning. Even with health coverage, Bobby will face significant medical expenses. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

Because of his illness, Bobby had to leave his job as a farm worker, adding to his financial strain. He will also incur significant costs for travel, food and lodging, as he must travel 150 miles to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta where the transplant will take place.
