Transplant Type - Heart

In 1984, Bobby Gene was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, a disease that has affected other members of his family as well. Doctors said a heart transplant was his only hope for survival. Thankfully, Bobby Gene received his lifesaving heart transplant in September and is recovering well.

This husband, father and grandfather looks forward to resuming his regular activities now that he has received his transplant. He hopes to return to work and enjoy his favorite hobbies, such as gardening. He would like nothing more than to spend many more years with his family watching his young grandchildren grow up.

A heart transplant costs approximately $750,000. And that's only the beginning. Even with health coverage, Bobby Gene will face significant medical expenses. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

Even while he was in poor health, Bobby Gene worked until he was no longer able because he wanted to provide for his family. He has been unable to work for nearly a year due to his declining health, adding to his family's financial strain.
