Transplant Type - Kidney

We are thrilled to report that Ben received his lifesaving transplant in May 2010 and is recovering well!

In 2007, Ben noticed areas around his toes were turning black. After testing, doctors diagnosed him with kidney failure and vasculitis. In 2009, his illness caused his kidneys to shut down, and he was diagnosed with Wegener's Granulomatosis, an autoimmune disorder causing inflammation of blood vessels. Doctors told Ben a kidney transplant was his only hope for an active and productive life.

Having so many physical limitations has been very difficult for this naturally active man who loves hiking, camping and hunting. Ben looks forward to living a normal life without relying on dialysis treatments six times a week. But he needs your help.

A kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. And that's only the beginning. Even with health coverage, Ben will face significant medical expenses. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

Although Ben has a career as a salesman, he has been forced to reduce his hours because of his illness, adding to his financial strain.

You can help.
