Transplant Type - Heart

In 2004, Alvin was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and cardiomyopathy after several trips to the hospital. Doctors have told Alvin a heart transplant is critical to his survival.

Despite his health issues, Alvin, a dedicated husband and father of four, remains strong and positive because he knows his family is worth living for. Alvin loves watching sports, coaching football and playing the drums, but his health no longer allows him to enjoy these activities. He is grateful to still be able to work with his church's youth group, which is one of his passions in life. More than anything, Alvin wants to be healthy enough to spend many more years with his wife, Cynthia, and their children. But he needs your help.

A heart transplant costs approximately $750,000. And that's only the beginning. Alvin faces significant medical expenses related to his transplant. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

Because of his declining health, Alvin is unable to work, adding to his financial strain. When he receives his lifesaving transplant, Alvin and Cynthia must temporarily relocate more than 200 miles to be closer to Emory Transplant Center during recovery, incurring substantial travel expenses.
