Transplant Type - Kidney
We are thrilled to report that Tony received his transplant in October 2010 and is recovering well!
Tony, a devoted husband and father, battled high blood pressure for many years. In 2003, he was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure and had to begin dialysis treatments. Doctors said a kidney transplant was his only hope for a second chance at life.
Despite his illness, Tony remains positive. He is currently working as a substitute teacher for the Montgomery Public School System, a position he enjoys. Tony is determined not to let his illness keep him from his dreams, and will receive his Master's in Business Administration from Troy University in December 2009.
Tony has high hopes for the future. He looks forward to regaining the independence he once enjoyed. He would like nothing more than to have his health restored so he can spend more time with his wife and daughter.
A kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000, and that's only the beginning. Even with health coverage, Tony faces significant medical expenses. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. It is estimated that in the short term, Tony needs at least $50,000 to cover his medical expenses.
