Transplant Type - Heart

BJ first became aware of heart problems during a routine college physical, when doctors discovered he had an enlarged heart. Many years later, he developed asthma-like symptoms. After a hospitalization for shortness of breath, BJ was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2001.

During the next several years, BJ experienced many health issues. He received a pacemaker and was hospitalized 12 times within one year. His declining health left him unable to work, making the financial burdens for his medical expenses even more overwhelming.

In June 2007, BJ was officially added to the transplant waiting list. Fortunately, he received his lifesaving transplant just two days later. Today, his doctors are pleased with his progress.

The average heart transplant costs approximately $600,000. Even with health insurance, BJ faces significant medical expenses. He will need follow-up care and daily medications for the rest of his life. These medications could cost as much as $5,000 each month, and they are as essential to his survival as the transplant itself. Without them, BJ's body will reject his new heart.

You can help! Your tax-deductible gift to the NFT Georgia Heart Fund in BJ's honor will enable NFT to assist with his transplant-related expenses. Please click on the link beneath BJ's photo to make your secure online donation.
