Transplant Type - Liver

Kris has been a patient with NFT since 1990. He first experienced health problems at age 11, when he contracted an unidentified virus. His liver completely failed, sending him into a coma. After many tests and blood transfusions, Kris received a liver transplant.

For many years, Kris has enjoyed a healthy and active life. Unfortunately, his body eventually began to reject the new liver, and he was again placed on the donor list in March 2007.

His reduced liver function has resulted in a vitamin and enzyme deficiency, causing severe joint pain and extreme fatigue. These side effects make it difficult for Kris to work and have forced him to limit physical activities.

Fortunately, Kris found a living donor and received his new liver in 2008.

A liver transplant costs approximately $500,000, and Kris' insurance will only cover a portion of these costs. He also will face a lifetime of follow-up care and expensive daily anti-rejection medications. These medications could cost as much as $5,000 a month and are as essential to his survival as the transplant itself.

You can help! Your gift to NFT will help Kris with his transplant-related expenses.
