Team of Doctors Climb Mount Rainier to Encourage Organ Donation

September 1, 2010

Today, a team of organ transplant surgeons and doctors from the Swedish Medical Center in Seattle will attempt to host the hospital’s first ever live social media web stream from Mount Rainier to promote the importance of an organ donation. The stream (available on the Swedish Medical Center website) will start today at 5 p.m. (GMT) and conclude at 6 p.m. (GMT).

Why?
At this very moment more than 108,000 people are waiting to receive an
organ transplant in the United States. So, this year, a team of Swedish Medical Center transplant surgeons thought of a way to bring their annual Mount Rainier organ donor awareness climb to the public.

How?

With a social media backpack.

Swedish Medical Center and its doctors brought together state-of-the-art solar and satellite technology into a single backpack that will allow the surgeons to attempt to stream live from Mount Rainier.
