Raise Hope: Be an Organ Donor

April 3, 2012

April is National Donate Life month, a time to educate Americans about the urgent need for organ donors. There are nearly 114,000 people on the national waiting list for transplants, and a new name is added to the list every 10 minutes.

Sadly, last year just 28,535 people received lifesaving transplants, and only 14,144 people donated organs. More lives could be saved if more people chose to donate their organs. Every day 18 people die while waiting for a transplant. One organ donor can save eight lives and change the lives of more than 50 people.

At NFT, not only do we help transplant patients raise funds to afford their care, but we also want to raise awareness about the vital need for organ donors. We could raise all the money in the world, but that won't matter if there aren't enough organ donors. For more information about becoming an organ donor, read about our Transplant Challenge.
