Summerfield, N.C., Dec. 8, 2015 – This holiday season, Megan Calloway, of Summerfield, is awaiting a gift more special than all the rest.

Doctors say she needs a life-changing kidney transplant.

During an annual physical, lab results revealed Calloway’s kidney function had declined, and she was referred to a specialist. After numerous tests and a biopsy, she was diagnosed with IgA nephropathy, a disease that had gone undetected for years and severely damaged her kidneys.

Memphis, Tenn., Dec. 2, 2015 – This holiday season, some local residents are awaiting gifts more special than all the rest, and one woman has something to be especially thankful for.

Right now, more than 122,000 people are awaiting lifesaving organ transplants in the U.S. And 2,875 of those waiting are right here in Tenn.

According the HealthcareGlobal.com, the six most expensive medical procedures of 2015 are all transplants. A heart transplant can cost close to $1 million, and a kidney transplant—the most commonly transplant organ—is $250,000.
