Mocksville, N.C., Sept. 23, 2009 – Volunteers are holding a two-day yard sale Friday, Sept. 25 and Saturday, Sept. 26 to benefit transplant patient Ricky Linville.
Linville, 51, was diagnosed with a life-threatening liver disease in 2003. Doctors say a liver transplant is his only hope.
A liver transplant costs approximately $500,000, and that is only the beginning. Even with health insurance, Linville faces significant expenses related to his transplant. Vital anti-rejection medications can cost as much as $5,000 each month, and he must take them every day for the rest of his life. These medications are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Linville’s declining health leaves him unable to work, adding to the financial strain of transplantation.
To help alleviate some of these financial burdens, Linville turned to the National Foundation for Transplants (NFT) for assistance. NFT is a nonprofit organization that helps patients raise funds to pay for transplant-related expenses.
The yard sale will begin at 8 a.m. each day at 409 Campbell Rd. Available items include household items, small appliances, toys and more. Baked goods will be available for purchase, and additional donations to assist Linville are strongly encouraged.
For more information, please call 336-753-1258 or 336-386-0883.
To make a tax-deductible donation in honor of Linville, please send a contribution to the NFT North Carolina Liver Fund, 5350 Poplar Ave., Suite 430, Memphis, TN 38119. Please be sure to write “in honor of Ricky Linville” on the memo line. Secure donations also can be made online at www.transplants.org. Donors should click on “Patients We Help” to locate Linville.
